14 Glossary of Software Errors and Error Messages
Software lock up: Software lock up can occur for unknown reasons. A defective ELT in
remote cases may also cause the software to lock up. In the rare circumstance where the
software freezes, or locks up the host computer, the following procedure may be used.
Press the “CTRL-ALT-DEL” keys together. This will bring up a Windows task list.
You should see the software routine (called Artex ELT Programmer) on the list. Select
it and chose “End Task”. If prompted, chose “End Task” again. If this does not close
the program down, wait and then follow this sequence again.
Red highlight during verification of message written to ELT: If the “verified” hex
message appears red during a write to the ELT, the hex message read from the ELT did
not properly match the hex message sent to the ELT. The operation may be tried again.
If it fails consistently, consider the ELT to be faulty and have it repaired.
“Unable to open selected Comm Port!!”: This may mean you have selected the wrong
COM port setting. Check that your COM port setting matches the COM port used with
the Level Shifter. It may also mean other software has opened and occupies this COM
port, even if that software isn’t in use. Close other programs that may use this COM
port.

“ELT Not Responding”: This likely means the baud rate setting is incorrect, the level
shifter is off, the level shifter is not connected to the host computer, or the level shifter is
not connected to the ELT.
