ARTEX AIRCRAFT SUPPLIES
Document # 570-2225
Register the aircraft and its new ELT programming with the appropriate Civil Aviation
Authority, unless the programming of the ELT previously installed in the aircraft
matches the programming of the new ELT, such as when using the auto-reprogram
feature.
Update any company database used to track ELT’s by programming and by aircraft.
8.3
C406-N Series PA Processing Procedure
8.3.1
Install the newly programmed PA and a C406-N series ELT on the level shifter. Power up
the level shifter to cause the PA to reprogram the ELT.
8.3.2
Verify successful ELT programming using the “Programming Verification” section of this
manual.
8.3.3
Complete the copy of the “ARTEX 406 MHz PROGRAMMING RECORD” for this PA.
Return the form to the Artex Repair Station Manager at Artex Aircraft Supplies. See
details in the labeling and registration sections of this manual.
8.3.4
Label the PA per the “Labeling Requirements” section of this manual.
8.3.5
Send the PA to the aircraft / ELT owner. If available, send a blank 15 digit hex code label
for the owner to use once the ELT programming is automatically updated in the aircraft.
8.3.6
Instruct the aircraft / ELT owner to perform the following steps.
Install the PA in the desired aircraft.
Power up the installation to cause reprogramming of the ELT.
Verify the current ELT programming using a Sartech 406MHz beacon tester or
equivalent. If the aircraft / ELT owner does not have a beacon tester, one may be
purchased or rented from Artex.
Label the ELT with the new 15 digit hex code.
Register the aircraft and its new ELT programming with the appropriate Civil Aviation
Authority, unless the programming of the previous installation in the aircraft matches the
programming of the new installation.
Update any company database used to track ELT’s by programming and by aircraft.
9 Programming Verification
Artex recommends performing the following tests inside some type of metal enclosure that
will attenuate any radio frequency emissions. Although coaxial cable connects the ELT to
its tester, the 406 MHz transmission can occasionally reach a satellite and contact Search
and Rescue.
NOTE: The following instructions assume use of the Sartech ARG 5410 Test
Set (Artex P/N 453-0131), if using the Artex ETS (Artex P/N 453-1000), refer to the ETS
Manual (570-1000) for instructions and examples of screen views.

9.1 INSTRUCTIONS
It is required that the installer test the 406 MHz output to determine the new programming
of the ELT as expressed by the 15 digit Hexadecimal ID. This 15-digit number is used to
register the ELT with the appropriate 406 MHz ELT registration authority. In the United
States, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) maintains a database
