2.5 EXTRACTION AND FLIGHT
2.5.1 Best Practices
• Rescuer must conduct a quick safety check by visually inspecting that the ARV-QC tail is
between the victims legs and that all 3 Key-Lock Lift System plates are secured before flight.
• To fly the victim the rescuer must attach the hoist hook, 2-Up hoist assist device, or short
haul HELA Rig directly to the large eye of the Key-Lock Lift System.
• When maintaining pre-load utilizing a connected short haul line, the rescuer’s hand should
be located on the soft material of the short haul attachment device just above the two
carabiners.
• When maintaining pre-load utilizing a hoist hook or 2-Up hoist assist device, the rescuer’s
hand should be located on the hoist hook bumper.
• It is imperative the ARV-QC be installed correctly, attached to the lift device correctly, and
pre-loaded correctly before the rescue attendant signals the aircraft to lift.
• Immediately after lift the rescuer should visually re-check all attachment systems to ensure
proper function and safety. If an issue is identified the attendant should signal the aircraft to
return them to the ground.
• The rescue attendant can make in flight adjustments for the increased comfort of the victim
by lifting the victims legs and pulling the ARV-QC up towards the knee. This action will help
seat the victim deeper into the device providing more support.
• Upon landing, to place the victim in a standing position the rescue attendant must grab
one of the exterior positioning handles and pull directly up when the victim’s feet touch the
ground. If the attendant does not assist the victim to stand, the victim will naturally land in
the supine position.
In order for this device to function properly it must be secured and attached
to the appropriate lift device correctly. Failure to properly safety check this
device may result in extreme injury or death.
