LIGHTS
position — The ignition circuit
is complete and the headlights and tail-
light are on. The key cannot be removed
in this position. The V-belt cooling fan
runs continuously.
Shift Lever
This ATV has a dual-range automatic
transmission with reverse.
Drive Select Switch
This switch allows the operator to oper-
ate the ATV in either 2-wheel drive (rear
wheels) or 4-wheel drive (all wheels).
For normal riding on flat, dry, hard sur-
faces, 2-wheel drive should be sufficient.
In situations of aggressive trail condi-
tions, 4-wheel drive would be the desired
choice.
FI475A
To either engage or disengage the front
wheels, move the switch to the 4WD
position or to the 2WD position.
The 4WD lock allows the operator to
mechanically lock the front differential to
apply equal power to both front wheels.
To engage the lock from 4WD, slide the
switch up and move fully to the left; to
disengage the lock, move the switch
lever to the right.
Hand Brake
The hand brake is considered to be the
normal operating (main) brake. It should
be applied whenever a braking situation
is needed.
Apply the brake by compressing the
brake lever toward the handlebar.
Brake Lever Lock
To engage and release the brake lever
lock, use the following procedure.
738-420B
1. Squeeze the hand brake two or three
times and release it.
2. Depress and hold the brake lever
lock.
3. While holding in on the brake lever
lock, squeeze the brake lever.
NOTE: It will click as it engages
and the brake lever will not return to
its released position.
4. Release the brake lever lock by
squeezing the brake lever. It will
return to its released position.
Check to make sure the brake lever lock
engages properly and that the brake
(when engaged) locks the wheels.
1. Pump the brake lever 2 or 3 times.
CAUTION
Leaving the ignition switch in the ON
or LIGHTS position for a long period
of time when the engine is not run-
ning may cause the battery to dis-
charge. Always leave the ignition
switch in the OFF position when
engine is not running.
CAUTION
Do not attempt to either engage or
disengage the 4WD lock front differ-
ential while the ATV is moving.
! WARNING
The 4WD lock is intended for use
where minimum traction is available.
NEVER EXCEED 10 MPH (16 kph)
with the lock engaged. Maneuverabil-
ity and handling characteristics will
differ with the lock engaged. Failure
to follow this procedure may result in
loss of control. Control loss can
result in severe injury or even death.
