Problem: Pump does not prime or priming time is very long
Possible cause Solution
Pre-filter is not filled with
water.  Fill to min. height of inlet
connection.
Air is being drawn in.

Suction line has to be free of
leaks; Water level up to middle
of skimmer opening.
Contamination of the
strainer baskets in the
skimmer and pre-filter.

Clean the strainer baskets.
Lid of the pre-filter is not
screwed on tightly.
 Tighten.
Suction line very high
above water level.
 Install non-return valve.
Shut-off valve in suction
and pressure line closed.

Open.
No self-priming pump
being used.  Install a non-return valve at the
suction side.
Problem: Pump output is not high enough
Possible cause Solution
Filter dirty  Backwash.
Shut-off valve in the unit closed
 Open.
Pipe too long/suction side too
high

Modify.
Suction line leaks - air is drawn
in
 Seal.
Problem: Pump is too loud
Possible cause Solution
Debris in the pump.

Clean the impeller and
casing.
