This unit must be used for its designed purpose only. Only use accessories that have been proved safe and
reliable. Aquametro AG guarantees this product within the framework of its general conditions of sale and
delivery. Aquametro AG products comply with current standards and directives. All liability for installation and
handling/maintenance of the unit is carried by the owner or operator. Please read the installation instuctions
carefully.
9 Product
9.1 Description of AMBUS
®
ZS-5
The serves as an M-Bus / RS232 converter and, in addition, is able to supply power to five Aquametro M-Bus
devices (AMTRON
®
E, AMTRON
®
N, AMBUS
®
IS, CALEC
®
MB, CALEC
®
ST, etc.). It does not store any meter
readings, rather it acts as an interface for transmitting such data directly upon request. This unit guarantees
complete integrity of data transfer during remote reading of the connected meters. The outputs are short-circuit
protected and galvanically isolated.
The planning of a small M-Bus network layout with ZS-5 is described in the “M-Bus Planning Folder”.

9.3 Maintenance
Clean the unit with a damp cloth only. Never use solvents.
9.4 Security
Warning:
• The 230 VAC mains power supply may only be connected to the L/N terminals.
• The connection of external voltages on terminals other than L/N is dangerous and may damage all connected
meters.
• When the unit is operating the terminals of the mains connections (12) are live and therefore should never be
touched!
• After work is completed, reclose the housing and seal screws (3) if necessary.

10 Installation
Warning:
• The power supply must be
off
during installation
• Remove the terminal cover (2) for installation.
10.1 Point of installation
• Leave enough space under the cable ports for entering the cables and RS232 interface for data readout.
• Protect the unit from direct sunlight and heat.
• Make sure that the installation point is dry and safe.
