Introduction to the SX Series Control System
The SX Series Control System from AMX has been
designed as a universal remote control system for
media and environmental applications.
By simply plugging together the modular
components in the SX Series, an infinite variety of
types and sizes of control systems may be
designed and installed.
Based around the SX16+ Relay Controller, the SX
System can control a large variety of equipment
including VCRs, Audio Tape Decks, Electric
Screens, Slide Projectors, Audio Volume, Lights,
etc.
Virtually any equipment controllable by a contact
closure (switch), a logic level signal, or serial data
can be interfaced to an SX16+ Controller. Up to 16
control functions may be dedicated to each SX16+.
Large control systems may be created by
connecting multiple SX16+ Relay Controllers
together. Each SX1 6+ contains a microprocessor
that communicates with other SX Series
components over a high speed data "bus".
The bus structure can carry up to sixteen SX Series
devices, all communicating with one another. Each
processor works independently of the others in a
scheme known as "Distributed Processing".
The SX16+ processors may also be instructed to
store and carry out complex "Automatic" routines at
the push of a control panel button. Drapes close,
lights go down, video projector warms up; after a
few seconds the screen lowers and the VCR goes
into "Play".
This type of automated sequence is now
programmed at AMX but will soon be available in
an easy to use software package.
Other SX Series Components
The SX-RM Receiver Module
A radio receiver that receives digitally coded radio
commands from a number of AMX Wireless Control
Panels.
SX-DCU Infra-Red & Serial Data Control Unit
Controller, for consumer infrared controlled TVs.
VCRs, tape decks, DCs, laser discs, etc. Use for 2
wire control of professional VCRs, audio tape decks
audio or laser disks. Each CCU stores up to 48
serial commands which can be played back using
AMX Wireless Controls, SoftWire Control Panels or
personal computers. Each unit has 3 serial outputs.
I aux. logic output, 1 RS2'-12C port, 1 AMX-SX
System bus interface and 1 Wireless (RF) input.
The SoftWire
®
Panels
Multiplexed Wired Control Panels with control and
feedback (status) information. Up to four SoftWire
Panels may be configured per system.
Computer Control
Any SX1 6-.. based control system may also be
controlled or programmed from any computer with a
serial interface. A built in RS-232C compatible port
is available on each SX16+ Relay Controller.
