Instructions for Use
Operate with the AR5
At this section you will learn how to operate the AR5, and navigate through the menu structure. Figures will
be shown and the corresponding function will be explained.
Turning on the AR5 Refractometer
The device has to be connected to the provided power supply.
To turn on the AR5, just press the
ON/OFF
button on the display.

After the AR5
is turned on, it automatically performs a brief self test that will last about one minute. The
process of the start-up procedure is shown graphically on the display.
The Display then indicates that it is powered on by a green light behind the
Reichert
symbol on the front.
If you want to turn off your refractometer, press the
ON/OFF
button for 1-2 seconds. The Display as well
as the Measuring head will shut down. A message will be displayed on the screen indicating that it will
shut down.
Setting the AR5 to Zero
You can manually set your measuring head to Zero by following the procedure below:
1. With the instrument power applied and ON, apply distilled water to the sample chamber.
2. Press the ON/OFF button twice while the AR5 is powered ON. The following screen will be shown.
3. Press the ON/OFF button again to set the AR5 to read the DI water sample to zero.
4. After the AR5 is set to zero, the displayed value indicates the difference between the factory set zero
and the new zero just set.
