About the Copper/Fibre Media Auto-Detection
The switch provides 2 optional mini- GBIC (SFP) ports for use with either copper or fibre modules.
These ports are paired with copper ports
7 and 8
. These paired ports enable Fibre uplinks to other
Gigabit Fibre switches for backbone or cascading applications. This switch will automatically detect
which media is plugged in to the port. If both copper and fibre media are plugged in,
the fibre
media has higher priority, and will become the default port for the pair.
The link for the copper
media is disabled while the fibre port is enabled. Copper link will re-established once the fibre media
has been un-plugged.
