5 Operation
Study the instructions carefully and pay special attention to warnings! Always check the machine before operation. Alfa Laval
recommends a soft starter for the machine to reduce the load on tank and machine. For operation instructions from motor
supplier see chapter 9.3 Drive unit instructions.
5.4 Troubleshooting
Problem Cause/result
Remedy
Not starting
- Defect - Dismantle gear motor, check for correct rotation
- Replace gear motor
- Fault at power supply
- Check power supply connection
- Check voltage and frequency correspond with motor
nameplate
- Check frequency converter adjustment correspond with
motor nameplate
Gear motor
- Mixer section stuck - Withdraw the IMXD from the tank and check if the mixer
section is completely stuck – for remedy see below
- Obstructed - Check that mixer head can rotate freely without striking
anything
- Turn hub and check unrestricted rotation. Remove stem
and hub. Remove foreign materials/material build-up
on stem, hub and inside nut. Clean ball races and ball
retainer w. balls. Reassemble machine
Mixer section
- Mechanical defects - Hold body so stem part is downward and rotate to check
that bevel gears work together. Inspect teeth on stem
and hub for deformation
- If hard particles get stuck between stem nut and stem or
hub and hub nut, the particles may damage the parts
Vibrations
Shaft - Damaged - Contact Alfa Laval
Unusual sounds
- Find root cause of sound - Change and/or repair parts
Leakage
Gear motor - Oil leakage
- Repair or replace gear motor
Performance
- Deviation from normal operation
- Operation must be according to specification
- Upstream errors - Check if supply valve is fully open
- Check if inlet pressure to machine is correct
No or insufficient liq-
uid flow
- Clogging - Check supply line for restrictions
- Remove nozzles and check for clogging
Motor stops/12
red flashes on
frequency converter - Clogging
- Jamming of rotating parts
- Turn off power supply to frequency converter until red
light stops flashing. Turn on power again
- Remove IMXD from tank.
- Dismantle spray section and remove objects that jam the
rotating parts.
