Emergency Repairs
Changing Road Wheels
• Chock the wheels.
• Using the jacking points raise
the wheel to be changed.
Check exposed wheel stud
thread for damage. Remove
the wheel nuts.
• Remove the wheel.
• Clean the mating edges of the
hub and the wheel. Apply a thin
coat of water repellent grease
to the bore of the wheel.
• Check that the threads of the
wheel studs are undamaged,
clean, and free from lubricant.
• Some models may be fitted
with Dacromet studs (these can
be recognised by their
grey/silver appearance), these
studs must not be oiled or
greased.
• Under condition of abnormal
corrosion, a modest amount of
lubricant may be applied to non
Dacromet stud types, only the
protruding threads of the wheel
studs. Do not use penetrating
oil.
• Fit the wheel, gradually
tightening the wheel nuts in the
correct sequence.
• Torque tighten the wheel nuts.
• Wheel nuts should be re-
torqued after the first loaded
run.
Wheel Nut Torque
Front & Rear . . .660Nm (487 lbf ft)
When fitting twin rear wheels,
ensure that the tyre valves are
positioned 180° apart.
