6) Turn the encoder another click clockwise. The highlighted text should now read “Main Right”
(shown below):
Verify that the tone is heard only from the right side of the headphones.
7) Now turn the encoder one click counterclockwise so that the highlighted text reads “Main
Left” again. Plug the headphones into the MAIN LEFT output jack and verify that the tone is
heard from the left side of the headphones.
8) Turn the encoder one click clockwise. The highlighted text should read “Main Right.” Verify
that there is no tone heard on the headphones.
9) Plug the headphones into the MAIN RIGHT output jack and verify that the tone is present
from the left side of the headphones.
10) Turn the encoder one click clockwise. The highlighted text should read “Aux Left.” Verify
that there is no tone heard on the headphones.
NOTE: Because the volume pot does NOT control the level of the AUX outputs, the tone from
the headphones may be very loud, depending on the sensitivity of the headphones used for
the test. The tester should pull the headphones away from the ears prior to plugging into the
AUX outputs in order to avoid possible ear damage.
11) Plug the headphones into the AUX LEFT output jack and verify that the tone is present
from the left side of the headphones.
12) Repeat steps 10 and 11 for AUX RIGHT.
13) Turn the encoder four clicks counterclockwise. The highlighted text should again read “All
Outputs.” Using an RCA cable, connect the SPDIF output of the unit under test to the SPDIF
input of the monitoring device with SPDIF I/O (i.e. studio mixer with SPDIF input).
14) Verify that the tone can be heard at the left and right outputs of the monitoring device.
15) Connect the optical cable from digital optical output of the unit under test to the ADAT
optical input of the monitoring device (with ADAT optical capability).
16) Verify that the tone is present on channels 1-6, and not on 7 and 8, on the monitoring
device.
17) Turn the encoder one click clockwise, and note that the highlighted text now reads “Main
Left.” Verify that the tone is present only on channels 1 and 5.
