La filosofia di progetto
Illustrare le motivazioni, lo sviluppo e la
realizzazione di un diffusore è anche l’occasione
per riflettere su molti aspetti della storia recente
della progettazione e della fruizione in alta fedeltà.
La filosofia di progetto di Albedo scaturisce da
una analisi approfondita delle due problematiche
che stanno alla base dell’universo della
riproduzione sonora: da una parte lo sviluppo
tecnologico e, nel caso specifico, il tendere allo
stato dell’arte nella realizzazione di un sistema di
altoparlanti; dall’altra, le esigenze reali dell’utente
in termini di prestazioni elevate, affidabilità e
praticità d’uso.
La discussione su questi problemi è la linfa del
dibattito nel nostro mondo e speriamo che questo
contributo possa quindi interessare sia
l’appassionato che l’addetto ai lavori. Dal punto di
vista dell’appassionato di riproduzione domestica,
il mercato offre molti ottimi prodotti, in particolare
nel settore dei sistemi di altoparlanti; d’altra parte,
se il suo desiderio è quello di entrare in possesso
di un diffusore il più possibile naturale nella
ricostruzione timbrica e prospettica ad un costo
non proibitivo, la scelta ancora oggi più diffusa è
quella del diffusore da stand o comunque di
dimensioni contenute. Esistono certo sistemi a
gamma intera con le prerogative dei piccoli
sistemi di qualità e senza le loro limitazioni in
frequenza e dinamica, ma quasi sempre con costi
molto elevati e con altri inconvenienti imposti
dalle dimensioni elevate. Le motivazioni che,
attraverso un lavoro di ricerca e di sviluppo, hanno
portato alla realizzazione di Albedo nascono da
un’intuizione che era poco più di una speranza: si
poteva realizzare una cassa acustica che suonasse
bene come un minidiffusore, che ingombrasse
come un minidiffusore sul suo stand e che avesse
una gamma bassa da grande sistema senza

Philosophy of design
As we present here the original motivation, the
development and the actual realization of a
loudspeaker system, we also take the occasion to
reflect on many aspects of the recent history of
design and listening enjoyment of High Fidelity
sound.
Albedo’s project philosophy has its roots in a
thorough analysis of the two basic problems in the
area of sound reproduction: on one side the
technological development, and in this specific
case, the state-of-the-art required for the design
of a loudspeaker system, while on the other side
there are the actual user requirements, as high
quality sound performance, reliability and
practicality of use. The ongoing debate on these
two subjects is the main motivation for technical
advances in our world, and we hope therefore that
this paper may be of interest both for the audio
amateur as well as for the professional.
From the point of view of the audio amateur, the
market offers an extremely wide range of fine
products, in particular in the area of loudspeaker
systems; however, if his aim is to get a speaker
that is, at the same time, tonally well balanced,
with a good soundstage and not too expensive,
the most common choice is still for a bookshelf or,
in any case, a small/medium-size system. Several
loudspeaker manufacturers offer full-range
systems which have all the sonic qualities of small
ones but without their limitations in dynamics and
response, but they are often very expensive and
dimensionally cumbersome. The motivations that
led to the creation of the Albedo loudspeakers,
through a long work of research and development,
originate from an intuition which was, at the start,
barely more than a dream: could we make a
system with the sound of a reference small
bookshelf, with the size of such a mini speaker on
