BNC
Bayonet Neill-Concelman connector.
DVB
Digital Video Broadcasting. An international organization dedicated to the
standardization of digital video broadcasting. Their webpage is: www.dvb.org
DVB-ASI
Asynchronous Serial Interface. An asynchronous serial interface for DVB streams that is
one of the principal formats for transmission of MPEG-2 streams over cable.
FEC
Forward Error Correction. This technique corrects errors at the receiving point produced
in a digital transmission channel by including redundant information at the
transmission point in the form of error correction codes.
GPI
General Purpose Input. This is a signaling and control interface that receives
information through detection of the open or closed status of an external circuit. The
information is received from a device at the other end of the line, typically employing a
GPO interface.
GPIO
General Purpose Input/Output. General purpose signaling interface that can operate as
an input (GPI) or output (GPO).
GPO
General Purpose Output. This is a signaling and control interface that transmits
information via closure of a contact. A GPI input is typically used at the other end of the
line.
IP
Internet Protocol. A low-level communications protocol used by the internet.
PLL
Phase Locked Loop. A feedback loop that synchronizes the phase of two signals.
RTP
Real Time Protocol. An internet protocol for applications that transmit IP data packets in
real time as per IETF standard RFC3550. This includes numbering of the packets,
detection of duplicate packets and recovery of lost packets if FEC packets as per SMPTE
2022-1 are included on the transmitter side.
