Anti-DoS
Anti-DOS feature prevents “Denial of Service” attacks that aim to disable your router by establishing
an extreme number of connections. In this window, you can set the number of connections that
will be allowed from the Internet at a given period of time for each protocol.
5.4.
NAT (Network Address Translation) and Port Forwarding
Settings
Network Address Translation (NAT) is a way to map an entire network (or networks) to a single
IP address. NAT allows multiple users in your local network to access the Internet through a
single public IP address (the global or legal IP address) assigned to you by your Internet service
provider. While your WAV-180 bears the global IP address, local IP addresses (like 192.168.2.4)
are assigned to hosts on your local network.
For a host outside your local network to access a machine on your local network, “Port Forwarding”
is used. Data packets sent from the Internet to your global IP address arrive at a certain port
of your router. If Port Forwarding is defined for that port, the incoming traffic is redirected to a
machine inside the local network that has only a local IP address. Some popular peer-to-peer
applications (e.g. E-mule, Kazaa, VPN, Remote desktop) rely on this technology.
To enable Port Forwarding on a port, go to “NAT” menu on the left menu bar and click on “Port
Forwarding”.
