This

chapter

provides

information

on

how

to

congure

the

GPIB

remote-control

system

and

the

basic

use

of

the

GPIB

commands

.

In

the

examples

used

in

this

manual,

most

of

the

commands

are

the

simple

GPIB

commands

.

each

of

these

commands

there

is

also

a

corresponding

command

that

conforms

to

the

Standard

Commands

for

Programmable

Instruments

(scpi )

standard.

What

is

GPIB?

The

General

Purpose

Interface

Bus

(gpib )

is

used

for

remote

control

of

the

4396B

Network/Spectrum/Impedance

Analyzer

(analyzer).

GPIB

is

a

standard

for

interfacing

instruments

to

computers

and

peripherals

.

This

standard

supports

worldwide

standards

IEEE

488.1,

IEC-625,

and

IEEE

488.2.

The

GPIB

interface

allows

the

analyzer

to

be

controlled

by

an

external

computer

.

The

computer

sends

commands

or

instructions

to

and

receives

data

from

the

instrument

through

the

GPIB

.

Required

Equipment

need
