4-4.9

Disc Gang Operation.

The disc gangs

may be set at an angle of 10, 15, or 20 De-

grees. The angle is adjusted by removing the

disc angle adjust pins and moving the outer

end of the disc gangs to the angle desired.

Reinstall pins to hold the disc at a desired

angle.

(See Figure 3-3.)

IMPORTANT

DISC GANGS ARE ASSEMBLED TO PROVIDE

CLEARANCE BETWEEN FRONT GANGS AT

10

o

. IF THERE IS TOO MUCH GAP BETWEEN

GANGS AT 15

o

AND 20

o

, THE FRONT GANGS

CAN BE SLID IN ON THE TUBES 1”.

4-4.10

Disc Gang Adjustment

a.

Raise the disc gangs to the full up position,

cylinders retracted.

b.

Adjust rear disc gang radius rods for a 1/8"

clearance between the disc gang frame 4x6

tube and the angle adjust brackets on the

main frame. Rear disc gangs should always

be at this adjustment.

c.

Front disc gangs may be adjusted to the

same depth as the rear gangs or adjusted to

run deeper than the rear gangs by adjusting

the front disc gang radius rods.

4-4.11

Check disc scrapers for proper pressure

and contact against disc blades

(See Sec-

tion 4-2 to adjust).

4-4.12

The spring shanks can be adjusted to

different depths and penetrating angles. Use

the following procedure to adjust depths and

angles:

a.

Remove the front spring anchor bolt from

the top of the front bracket.

b.

Place the bolt into the other hole.

IMPORTANT

THE SHANK DEPTH CHANGES APPROXI-

MATELY 1".

4-5 WHEEL BEARING MAINTENANCE

Wheel bearing maintenance should be per-

formed at the beginning of every season of use.

Check the wheel bearings periodically for exces-

sive end play. If needed, adjust or replace them

using the following procedure :

4-5.1

Place the frame on blocks or stands suf-

ficient to lift the tire clear of the ground. Re-

move the wheel.

4-5.2

Remove the hub cap, cotter pin, slotted

nut and washer.

4-5.3

Remove the hub. Clean and inspect the

bearings and hub cavity. Replace any worn

or defective parts.

4-5.4

Repack the bearings using a high-

quality wheel bearing grease.

4-5.5

Replace the hub with a new seal and

the inner bearing in place.

4-5.6

Install the outer bearing cone, washer

and slotted nut.

4-5.7

Tighten the slotted nut while rotating the

hub until there is a slight resistance to wheel

rotation. Then, back the slotted nut off one

notch, until the wheel rotates freely without

end play.

4-5.8

Install a new cotter pin and replace the

hub cap.

4-6 LUBRICATION

Several parts of the Model DR8700 Disc Rip-

per need periodic lubrication. Use of a high grade

multi-purpose grease is recommended. Refer to

the Lubrication Chart

(See Figure 4-2)

to locate lu-

brication points and for a recommended mainte-

nance schedule.
