4-4 FIELD OPERATION
CAUTION
DEPTH ADJUSTMENT MUST BE
EQUAL ON ALL CYLINDERS. UNE-
QUAL DEPTH ADJUSTMENT CAN
CAUSE PERMANENT EQUIPMENT
DAMAGE.
CAUTION
HITCH MUST BE LOCKED WHEN
FOLDING OR UNFOLDING THE WING.
4-4.1 Unfold the wing. Extend the fold cylin-
ders completely to allow the wing to float.
4-4.2 Remove the hitch lock pin and using the
same hydraulic lever used to unfold the wing,
swing the hitch to field position. Replace the
hitch lock pin and safety pin.
4-4.3 Remove the transport locks from the
cylinders. Lower the Disc Ripper until the
points run at the desired depth.
4-4.4 Check the front-to-rear leveling of the
frame. Level the machine by adjusting the
hitch radius rod. Set the frame level at its
working depth.
4-4.5 Set the depth by using a combination of
cylinder stops to achieve the desired depth.
For stability, it is important that the gauge
wheels always apply slight pressure against
the soil.
4-4.6 Always lift the Disc Ripper completely
out of the ground before turning or backing.
This prevents shank or disc damage or dam-
age to their respective mounting brackets.
4-4.7 Reduce speed at field ends, and lift the
Disc Ripper completely out of the ground be-
fore turning.
4-4.8 After a few hours of operation, check all
bolts for tightness, especially the shank U-
bolts and pivot bolts. Tighten wheel lug bolts
to 90 ft-lbs of torque. Tighten any loose bolts
to the torques shown in Table 2-1.
CAUTION
TIGHTEN ALL 1-1/2" NUTS TO 1200
FOOT-POUNDS OF TORQUE.

ING NEAR DISC BLADES AND NEVER
PUSH WRENCHES TOWARDS DISC
BLADES. DO NOT CLIMB OVER MA-
CHINE ABOVE DISC BLADES. FAIL-
URE TO STAY CLEAR OF DISC
BLADE EDGES CAN RESULT IN SERI-
OUS PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.
