4. TESTING
Self Test
When inserted into a powered-up backplane the
HD-10 performs a self test. Results are seen on the
faceplate LED: Red indicates Fail, Green indicates
Pass. Refer to Table 2. Self Test status is also
available via the DB-9 interface.
Initiated Tests
The HD-10 supports testing and performance
monitoring at both the DS0 and DS1 levels. The
following types of loopbacks are supported on the DS1
level:
• local bilateral loopback
• local loopback
• payload loopback
• line loopback
• remote payload loopback
• remote line loopback
NOTE
DS1 level loopbacks are intrusive and will
disrupt channel bank service.
Local Bilateral Loopback
A local bilateral loopback test can be activated in both
SF and ESF modes by pressing the faceplate TEST
button. The test simultaneously places a loopback in
both the carrier and loop directions on all 10 BRI
circuits. When the bilateral loopback is active the
faceplate LBK LED will go On. Pressing the TEST
button a second time will deactivate the loopback test
returning the HD-10 to normal operation, the LBK
LED will go Off.
This loopback can also be invoked via the DB-9
interface. To initiate a local bilateral loopback test,
navigate the menu as follows:
TEST >> BILATERAL LOOPBACK
Then select ON to activate the test. The LBK LED
turns On solid yellow to indicate that the TA HD-10 is
in test mode.
To deactivate bilateral loopback, navigate the menu as
follows:
TEST >> BILATERAL LOOPBACK
Then select OFF. The LBK LED will go Off
indicating the test is terminated.
Local Loopback
A local loopback bridges the T1 line across the
receive pair to the transmit pair, isolating the bank
from the T1 line. This allows for internal bank testing
and individual card testing, and provides a baseline for
T1 line testing.
To initiate a local loopback, navigate the menu as
follows:
TEST >> DSX LOOPBACKS >> CURRENT
LOOPBACK
Then select LOCAL LOOPBACK to activate the
desired test. The HD-10 will return to the previous
screen to show the status of the test. The LBK LED
will Flash to indicate the HD-10 is in test mode.
To deactivate remote loopbacks, navigate the menu as
follows:
TEST >> DSX LOOPBACKS >> CURRENT
LOOPBACK
To disable the local loopback select NONE. The HD-
10 will return to the previous screen to show the status
of the test. The LBK LED will turn Off indicating the
test is terminated.
Payload and Line Loopbacks (ESF and SF)
A payload loopback from the HD-10 results in only
the payload data being looped back to the remote T1
multiplexer. Framing is regenerated by the local
HD-10.
A line loopback from the HD-10 results in a full
loopback. Framing is not regenerated by the local
HD-10 but instead is echoed back to the remote T1
multiplexer.
To initiate either a payload or line loopback, navigate
the menu as follows:
TEST >> DSX LOOPBACKS >> CURRENT
LOOPBACK
Then select either PAYLOAD LOOPBACK or LINE
LOOPBACK to activate the desired test. The HD-10
will return to the previous screen to show the status of
the test. The LBK LED will Flash indicating the
HD-10 is in test mode.
To deactivate the loopbacks, navigate through the
menu as follows:
TEST >> DSX LOOPBACKS >> CURRENT
LOOPBACK
To disable either the payload or line loopback select
NONE. The HD-10 will return to the previous screen
to show the status of the test. The LBK LED will go
Off indicating the test is terminated.
