Configuration of time synchronization
Time synchronization options
The time synchronization methods of a SAM600 system are:
Synchronization by IEEE 1588 (IEC 61850-90-3 profile)
Free-running
Synchronization by 1PPS
The sample synchronization field (
SmpSync)
of the generated SV streams depends
on the configured synchronization method and the current state of the system.
The SAM600 modules of a system are synchronized to each other
always according to IEC/IEEE 61850-9-3, which is a profile of
IEEE 1588 v2 (PTP). One of the SAM600 modules is PTP Master
and all others are PTP slaves, or all of the modules in the system are
PTP slaves to an external PTP Master depending on the configured
synchronization method.
IEC/IEEE 61850-9-3 (PTP)
A SAM600 system can be synchronized to an external time master via PTP by
configuring the
IEC/IEEE 61850-9-3 (PTP)
time synchronization method.
IEC/IEEE 61850-9-3 time synchronization method has two modes:
GrandMaster clock with GPS
Master clock
In the setting
GrandMaster clock with GPS
, a SAM600 system expects to receive
IEC/IEEE 61850-9-3 from a time master that has GPS connection. Unavailability
of a time master with GPS connection will be indicated by
SmpSync
field of
sampled value streams provided. An example for a GPS synchronized SAM600
system is shown in
The 1PPS output from SAM600-TS module can be used for synchronizing client
devices such as IEDs that are not directly synchronized by IEE 1588.
