Resistor braking

• The braking energy must not exceed the energy dissipation capacity of the
selected resistor
• It is highly recommended that the resistor be protected from thermal overload;
see the section Contactor protection of drive below.
Chopper data / Resistor selection table
The ratings apply at an ambient temperature of 40°C (104°F).

The internal chopper will withstand this continuous braking power. The braking is considered
continuous if the braking time exceeds 30 seconds.

brmax
Maximum braking power of the chopper. The chopper will withstand this braking power for 1
second within every 10 seconds.
Note: The listed resistors will withstand this braking power
for 1 second within every 120 seconds.

min
The minimum allowed resistance of the braking resistor.
R Resistance of the listed resistor.

Continuous power (heat) dissipation of the listed resistor when cooled naturally in a vertical
position.

pulse
Energy pulse the listed resistor will withstand.
The braking resistors are protected to IP20. Refer to page 117 for dimensions, wire
sizes and tightening torques for the resistors.
