Cantar-X User Manual v2.26 (r13) 2009 April 27

ROUTINGS 1,
T1–T6 IN-GRIDS
The Cantar eight monophonic iso tracks are sepa-
rated into two groups: T1–T6 on the circular screens,
and T7 T8 on the rectangular one.
Create T1 – T6 In-Grids
Rotate the [MainSelector] to five o'clock.
note:
to avoid spurrious activation of PLAY and BROWSE
while going to ROUTINGS, the triggering of these two
functions is slightly delayed.
T1–T6 can receive any one of the inputs (mic1–5,
line1–4, and digi1–6) .
Fifteen In-Grid configurations
are stored in three
groups: A1–A5, B1–B5, C1–C5 (these IDs are dis-
played on the central screen).
note:
To learn the process, create an In-Grid from scratch:
erase an existing one by pressing the [gold] button while
[jog]-ing through the three circular screens.
Example
:
Select the ID to be modified/created, a blinking cur-
sor awaits your orders near the '
*
' on the left circular
screen.
To route mic1 to T1, [jog] five positions up and put
the blinking cursor facing the mic '1' segment then
press the [black] button to accept it; to route line1 to
T5, [jog] the cursor through T2, T3, and T4 until you
land on T5 (odd tracks are on the outer circle, even tracks on
the inner circle). Go to the position opposite line1, accept
with the [black] button (clear with the [gold] button).
M/S Declaration
If two tracks carry an M/S pair entered on say mic 3 and
mic 4, use the [black] button to activate the '
m-s
' icon at-
tached to these two tracks while passing over it.
Being '
m-s
' declared, these files are monitored as L/R ste-
reo tracks in the outputs and the mix (see
Pan-pots
, p.17).
Aaton Majax (p.56) can decode and replace
M/S pairs with L/R pairs for editing machines
which can't decode M/S stereo.
The suffix of the files carrying M/S tracks carry
a hyphen '
–
' instead of an underscore '_'.
Titan3 (p.56), the
auto-conforming tool, must carry the
cantar.tsc
file to handle
these hyphen flagged suffixes.
