Quick Guide
Self-Contained Operation
Hold your 3M
™
ScanEM-C Electromagnectic Near-Field Probe in the
palm of your right hand, just as you would hold a pen.
Press the Operate button with your thumb and hold it down continuously
while using the ScanEM-C Probe.
Put the Sound slide switch in the position desired (start with On if in
doubt) and put your index finger on the Level dial.
Point the ScanEM-C Probe away from the product you are about to test
and adjust the Level dial so that only the green LED is on.
Keeping the Operate button pressed, pass the tip of your ScanEM-C
Probe over the areas in question as close as possible without touching.
Look and listen for any changes.
The higher the pitch of the sound and the more LEDs that are on, the
greater the strength of the electromagnetic field.
Amplified Probe for Use With Other Test Equipment
Plug the SMB (small) connector of the supplied cable into the connector
on the back of the ScanEM-C Probe, and the BNC (big) connector into
the INPUT of your spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope or multimeter. For
some types of equipment, you may need an additional adapter (BNC-
to-N or BNC-to-banana plug).
Set the Level dial to zero (counterclockwise position). The Sound switch
position is irrelevant—the unit will emit neither light nor sound when
used as a probe.
Press the Operate button with your thumb and hold it down continuously
while using the ScanEM-C Probe.
