The  installation  and  configuration  of  this  equipment  is  a  relatively  simple  process  provided  you  take  care  to  follow  the

instructions given in this document and the full user guide. In addition,  please take time to read the section entitled ‘Extended

PCI Bus performance’ in the user guide.

The connection diagrams in the document show the DDL2050 desktop unit but the instructions apply equally to all versions. The

main differences are the availability and number of PCI slots in the desktop unit and the medium used to connect to the back-

racked computer: copper or fibre.

1 Preparing your computer

a.

If your computer has on-board video or audio, perform a restart and change the BIOS settings to PCI or Autodetect.

Consult your computer documentation for specific instructions.

b.

Save your changes and power down the computer.

c.

Disconnect the keyboard, monitor, mouse and any other USB devices or audio components that will be active at the

user  desktop.

d.

Remove the computer cover to enable access to the interface cards inside

.

e.

Remove the current video and audio cards, if applicable, from the computer.

2 Configuring the PCI Add-In card

The DDP2000 / 2100 PCI card is fitted with a number of configuration DIP switches which control which services (USB, Audio etc.) are

available at the desktop. By default all services are enabled. The full user guide provides more details.

3 Installing the PCI Add-In Card

Install and secure the PCI Add In Card into an available PCI slot. Close and secure the cover of the computer. If you are using a PS/2

keyboard and mouse connect the PS/2 keyboard/mouse “Y” cable between the PCI Add-In Card and the appropriate PS/2 ports on your

computer.  This cable is not required if a USB keyboard and mouse are being used.

4 Deploying the system

Relocate the computer to the centralized computer facility. Connect the computer’s power cable. Connect the newly installed DDP 2000

PCI Add-In Card to the Desktop Appliance using CAT 5/5e/6 cable (fiber-optic cable for the DDP2100 version) as required. NOTE: A patch

cable can be used to locally connect the appliance to the PC.

WARNINGS:

Always connect the Desktop unit to the power supply unit BEFORE mains power is switched on.

The DeTwo system works by extending the PCI bus from the computer PCI Add-in card out to the desktop unit via

a twisted pair cable link. Disconnecting the link cable whilst the system is in use could result in corruption of the

host PCI bus and subsequent loss of data.
