GENERAL DESCRIPTION
2.1 Introduction
The
ZGR SWIT NG is a rectifier capable of managing both Pb and watertight NiCd batteries.
Our aim is to provide you with a range of chargers capable of managing loads and maintaining batteries, for use in
industrial applications.

Today, there are many applications that require this kind of chargers in order to maintain batteries in perfect
condition so that these can guarantee, in the case of a mains electricity failure, the supply of enough energy to
keep the unit operating while the power failure lasts, or, in a worst-case scenario, until battery power runs out.
Specific applications include the following: electrical protection and control systems, electricity power stations,
cogeneration, emergency signposting, etc., in other words, all those applications in which a power supply in the
absence of a mains electricity is required (operating theatre lighting, environmental sensor controls, etc.).
The use of remote management, surveillance and control equipment, supplied with direct current, that require
guaranteed operation when there is an absence of electrical power supply, are used increasingly in industrial
systems. The tendency is towards distributed supply and therefore low power systems are required (SWIT NG)
situated near the equipment these supply. Normal supply sources are not designed to manage battery charges
and specialised, economic solutions are required. In view of the wide variety of applications, these must allow
flexible connections to form elements with different power levels.
ZIGOR has considered it important to provide a range of low-power chargers, with the characteristics demanded
by today's market conditions: low input current distortion, low pollution due to the injection of harmonics into the
network, high performance and, on the other hand, the possibility of allowing personalised, flexible and low-cost
solutions. This combination of objectives aims to improve the competitiveness of ZIGOR's products in this
sector.
The
ZGR SWIT NG range features the characteristics of large chargers in the smallest size possible:

Power sources normally use a rectifier with a simple filter condenser to obtain power from the AC line.
Unfortunately, with an input filter condenser, the waveform of the current is not sinusoidal, but is a narrow current
pulse with a very high peak value. The result is a very poor power factor and high harmonics content, causing
noise in the line. In order to overcome this problem, the SWIT NG includes a control circuit responsible for
providing the semiconductors with the appropriate signals to acquire power from the mains with a high power
factor.
