If a 3-prong power outlet like that shown in Fig. 1 is not provided, ground
the terminal coming out of the 3-prong/2-prong adapter shown in Fig. 2.

In this case, as explained in section 4.1.(1), if a 3-prong (or grounded-type 2-prong)
outlet is available, the plug on the 3-wire power cord will match the power
supply’s polarities, so the unit’s casing will be connected to ground potential when
the power cord is inserted in the power outlet. A 3-prong/2-prong adapter plug is
not needed in this case.
