KEY SWITCH
The key switch is mounted on the dash to the
right of the steering column (Figure 3). To start
the vehicle, place the Transmision Gear Shift Lever
in the NEUTRAL position and turn the key
clockwise and hold until the engine is running
smoothly. Release the key and the engine should
idle. The engine will continue to idle until the key
is turned counterclockwise.

WARNING
• Do not shift the Forward/Reverse handle while the accelerator pedal is pressed. Shift
the handle only when the vehicle is at a complete stop. Failure to heed this caution could
result in damage to the transmission.
• Moving parts! Keep clear of the engine compartment while the engine is running.
CAUTION
NOTE: The key can be removed only when the
engine is not running.
TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFT LEVER
The Transmission Gear Shift Lever is located on the dash (Figure 3). The lever has three distinct
positions: F (FORWARD), N (NEUTRAL), and R (REVERSE). Pull handle downward (F) to operate
the vehicle in the forward direction, or upward (R) to operate the vehicle in reverse. The engine must
be at idle before shifting the Transmision Gear Shift Lever. See WARNING and CAUTION below.
Note: This vehicle operates at a reduced speed in reverse.

• Stop the vehicle before shifting the Transmision Gear Shift Lever. Engine must be at idle
before shifting the Forward/Reverse handle. Failure to do so may result in injury to
passengers and (or) damage to the vehicle and will void the warranty.
• Release the accelerator pedal and then depress the brake pedal firmly until the vehicle
stops. To avoid unintentional starting or rolling the vehicle, set the park brake (see page
13), turn the key switch to OFF, and remove the key when leaving the vehicle.
