Starter Motor
WARNING
SHOCK HAZARD!
Turn off the battery switch (if equipped) or
disconnect the negative battery cable before
servicing the electrical system.
Check the electrical harnesses for cracks,
abrasions, and damaged or corroded
connectors. ALWAYS keep the connectors and
terminals clean.
Failure to comply could result in death or
serious injury.
Note:
While starter motor design varies between
models, the basic repair procedures are the same.
The following procedures are typical and may differ
from the stater being serviced.
Removal of Starter Motor
1.
Disconnect the battery cables at the battery, negative
(-) cable first.
2.
Remove the electrical wires from the magnetic switch
assembly.
3.
Remove the starter mounting bolts
(Figure 11-2, (1))
.
Remove the starter motor from the flywheel housing.

1.
Loosen the M8 nut from the magnetic switch
(solenoid) assembly
(Figure 11-3)
. Disconnect
the wire from the magnetic switch.

Remove the two M4 bolts
(Figure 11-4, (1))
securing the rear cover
(Figure 11-4, (2))
to the
brush holder assembly
(Figure 11-4, (3))
