1-2. Lubrication
The maintenance of proper lubrication
i s the most important consideration that can be given to
the shaft drive system by the owner or service person. Almost any significant wear or failure can
usually be traced to low lubricant level, contaminated lubricant, or the wrong choice of gear oil.

1-3. Identification
Some component assemblies, such
as the Middle Gear Case assembly, may contain components of
more than one type. These different types will be identified in the text as Type 1 or Type
2.
