PERIODIC CHECKS AND ADJUSTMENTS
INTRODUCTION
This chapter includes all information necessary to perform recommended checks and adjustments. If
followed, these preventive maintenance procedures will ensure more reliable vehicle operation, a
longer service life and reduce the need for costly overhaul work. This information applies to vehicles
already in service as well as to new vehicles that are being prepared for sale. All service technicians
should be familiar with this entire chapter.

• Check fuel hose and vacuum hose for cracks or
damage.
• Replace if necessary.

• Check, clean and replace if necessary.

• Check operation and adjust brake lever free play.
• Replace brake shoes if necessary.

• Check operation, fluid level and fluid leakage.
• Replace brake pads if necessary.
10 * Rear brake
• Check operation and adjust brake pedal free
play.
• Replace brake shoes if necessary.
11 * Swingarm pivot
• Check swingarm assembly for looseness.
• Correct if necessary.
• Lubricate with lithium soap base grease every
16,000 km.
12 * Wheels
• Check balance, runout, spoke tightness and for
damage.
• Replace if necessary.
13 * Wheels bearings
• Check bearing assembly for looseness or dam-
age.
• Replace if damaged.
14 * Steering bearing
• Check bearing assembly for looseness.
• Correct if necessary.
• Lubricate medium weight wheel bearing grease
every 8,000 km.
15 * Front forks
• Check operation and for oil leakage.
• Repair if necessary.

Rear shock
absorber
• Check operation and for oil leakage.
• Repair if necessary.
17 * Drive chain
• Check chain slack and alignment.
• Adjust if necessary.
• Clean and lubricate.
Every 500 km

Fittings/Fasteners
• Check all chassis fitting and fasteners.
• Correct if necessary.
