PERIODIC SERVICE
2. If the radiator is provided with a reserve tank,
check the coolant level of the reserve tank. When
it is between the “FULL” and “LOW” marks, the
coolant will usually last for one day’s work.
(1) Reserve tank
(2) Cap
(A) “FULL”
Upper line 0.6 L
(0.63 U.S.qts.)
(B) “LOW”
3. When the coolant level drops due to evaporation,
add only 50/50 coolant up to the full level.
4. Check to see the two drain plug; one is at the
crankcase side and the other is at the lower part of
the radiator as shown below.

NOTICE
8
If the radiator cap has to be
removed, proceed with caution
and securely retighten the cap.
8
If coolant is leaking, consult a
Yamaha dealer.
8
Make sure that muddy or sea
water is not used in the radiator.
8
Use clean, fresh water and 50%
anti-freeze to fill the recovery
tank.
8
Do not refill reserve tank with
coolant over the “FULL” level
mark.
8
Be sure to close the radiator
cap securely. If the cap is loose
or improperly closed, coolant
may leak out and decrease the
level quickly.
8
When coolant is added, coolant
level may drop the first time
the engine is started. Stop
the engine, and add coolant if
necessary.
Changing coolant
1. To drain coolant, always remove both drain plugs
and simultaneously open the radiator cap as well.
With the radiator cap kept closed, the coolant will
not drain completely. Dispose of used coolant
properly.
2. Remove the overflow pipe of the radiator pressure
cap to drain the reserve tank.
3. Prescribed coolant volume

4. An improperly tightened radiator cap or a gap
between the cap and the seat increases loss of
coolant.
5. Coolant (Water and anti-freeze)
All seasons: Pure water and anti-freeze (See “Anti-
freeze” in “Radiator” section.)
Remedies for rapid coolant loss
1. Check for dust and dirt between the radiator fins
and cooling tube. Clean the fins and the tubes as if
necessary.
2. Check the tension of the fan belt. If loose, tighten it
securely.
3. Check the internal blockage in the radiator cooling
tubes. If scale forms in the tubes, clean with the
scale inhibitor or its equivalent.
