JET PUMP CLEAN-OUT
PROCEDURE
SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH MAY
RESULT IF YOU IGNORE ANY OF
THE FOLLOWING:
●
Turn off and remove both ignition
keys, remove lanyard, and wait for
all movement to stop before
removing access port caps.
●
Never override interlocks to run
engine with hatch open.
●
The impeller has sharp edges. Be
careful when reaching into jet
pump area.
If weeds or debris get caught in the
intake or impeller, cavitation can occur,
and though the engine speed rises, for-
ward thrust will decrease. If this condi-
tion is allowed to continue, pump
damage can occur and the engines
may overheat and seize. If there is any
sign that the jet intake or impeller is
clogged with weeds or debris, follow
this cleanout procedure.
1) Turn off and remove ignition keys,
remove lanyard, and wait for all
movement to stop.
2) Lift the hatch on the rear platform.
3) Check that the retaining cord is
securely attached to the cap and
retaining strap. Press the release
button and lift the cap up out of the
port. Set the cap where it cannot be
accidentally knocked overboard.
4) Remove any weeds or debris from
the drive shaft, impeller, pump hous-
ing, and steering nozzle. If you can-
not remove the debris, consult your
Yamaha Boat Dealer.
5) To reinstall the access port cap, first
clean off any sand or other foreign
matter from the cap or port surfaces.
Insert the cap so that its slot faces
the bow and lines up with the pro-
jection in the access port wall.
