6. Barcode Scanning

Scanning Considerations
To ensure barcode scanning in high performance, below factors should be considered:
1. Range
- Any scanning device decodes well over a particular working range

minimum and maximum distances from the bar code.
This range varies according to bar code density and scanning device optics.
- Scanning within range brings quick and constant decodes; scanning too close or too far away mostly causes inaccurate
decode. Move the scanner to find the right working range for the bar codes being scanned.
2. Angle
- Scan angle is important for promoting quick decodes.
It is recommended to hold the device at some angle (approx. within 65°) as shown in the figure, so that the laser beam is at
an angle and the reader receives an irregular reflection. When the laser beam is mounted at a right angle to the barcode, the
reflection becomes too strong (specular reflection) for the barcode reader to detect it properly, resulting in inaccurate reading.
