Information about Sun Protection
The solar protection factor in Europe uses the light skin of a
Northern European as basis. That means, the time in which
such a Northern European can stay in the sun without getting
skin damage. This time is approx. 20 minutes with untanned
skin.
Example: If you use suntan lotion with SPF of 6, you can
stand 120 minutes (6 x 20) in the sun without the risk to get
sunburnt. Thereby the suntan lotion should be applied again
after one hour.
When using suntan lotions, make sure the lotions have a
sufficient SPF and are effective in UV-A and UV-B range.
For especially sensitive persons and children it is recom-
mended to use suntan lotions with an SPF of at least 15.
Children up to the age of one year should not be exposed to
direct sunlight at all.
Proper clothing and good sunglasses ensure optimum sun
protection.
The SPF for the used suntan lotion should preferably double
the measured UV index value.
