Operation
UV Index
UV index is a value which measures the intensity of solar
radiation. This value applies equally to all skin types.
In the past years the ultraviolet fraction has increased, thus
sunburns and skin changes may occur. But if the current UV
index is known, appropriate sun protection can be taken.
The definition UV index is the same all over the world. The UV
index is displayed on an open-ended scale which starts from 0.
The intensity of the UV index increases with altitude. Therefore in
very high mountain groups the UV radiation is higher than in flat
countries, even with cloudy sky.
Applications
Checking quality of the UV protection of your sunglasses.
Compare the difference between direct exposure to sunlight
and exposure to sunlight with the protection of sunglasses.
Checking quality of the UV protection of your car windows.
Checking quality of your suntan lotions.
Put a little suntan lotion on one half of a transparent glass and
leave the other side empty. Then compare the measured
results.

can be sure to sunbathe without getting sunburnt and at the
same time you can check the quality of the sun protection of
your windows.

protection
