General notes
In the course of further development it may happen that connections and/or pin assignments
change.
The current test instructions should always be used for installation purposes.
Should specified pin spaces be assigned, bridges, double crimping or parallel connections
will have to be made.
Install all electrical cables in such a way as to exclude any possibility of them sagging or
chafing.
Take care to see when installing electrical cables in the vehicle that they are not kinked
or damaged, as otherwise faults may occur which can only be eliminated by extensive
re-working.
Costs arising in this way will not be reimbursed by BMW.
Only vehicles from 9.98 with automatic air conditioning (IHKA) will have to have the IHKA
control unit and the control unit of the supplementary heater re-coded (see also p. 10).
In vehicles with heating system (IHR) no coding should be carried out.
Notes on ordering
The blower relay was gradually replaced in the series in vehicles with optional equipment
IHKA (automatic heating and air conditioning) (OE 534) to 9.98 with a plug connector and the
blower controller was modified. In vehicles with blower relay, the current state-of-the-art has to
be created (see also Chapter 4 on page 5).The parts required for this are not included in the
installation kit and have to be ordered separately.

To avoid problems of starting as a result of operating the retrofitted park heating,
it is important that you observe the following:
While the park heating is in operation the battery is discharging. To avoid problems of starting
as a result of using park heating,
you should cover a distance of min. 20 km per park-
heating operation, independent of how long the park heating has been switched on
in order to ensure that the battery is adequately charged.
In vehicles with optional equipment climatic window (OE 358), the range of the remote
control is to some extent reduced.
The park heating may not be operated (even with a timer or by remote control) in enclosed
spaces such as garages or workshops without an exhaust-gas extraction system in operation!
The park heating must be switched off at service stations and/or refuelling plants.
