RULES FOR THE REPAIR OF EQUIPMENT CONTAINING R290 REFRIGERANT
ATTENTION!
Service and repair of the device may only be performed by qualified persons.
1.2.
Work procedure
1.5.
The presence of a fire ex nguisher
If any high-temperature work is to be carried out on the refrigera on unit or its associated components,
suitable ex nguishing resources should be on hand: powder ex nguisher or CO2 ex nguisher.
1.6.
No sources of igni on
The work area should be checked with a suitable refrigerant detector before and during opera on to
ensure that the technician is aware of poten ally flammable material escaping into the atmosphere. Make
sure the leak recovery equipment you use is suitable for flammable refrigerants, i.e. non-sparking,
properly sealed or intrinsically safe.
Anyone carrying out work on the refrigera on system that exposes piping containing flammable
refrigerant must not use any sources of igni on in a way that could lead to a risk of fire or explosion. All
possible sources of igni on, including smoking, should be far enough away from the installa on, repair,
removal and disposal site where flammable refrigerant can be released into the surrounding space. Before
star ng work, visually inspect the area around the equipment to make sure that there are no other
flammable substances and no risk of igni on. No smoking signs should be posted in a prominent place.
1.7.
Adequate ambient ven la on
Before star ng repair work, make sure that the area where the repair work is to be carried out has ample
space and is adequately ven lated. Adequate ven la on must be maintained during the work. The
ven la on should safely dissipate the released refrigerant and ideally expel it to the outside of the
building.
1.3.
Workplace
1. GENERAL RULES
All repair work must be undertaken in accordance with strict procedures to minimize the risk of flammable
gas or vapor escaping while the work is being carried out.
1.4.
Checking the presence of refrigerant
1.1.
Before star ng repair work on equipment containing flammable refrigerant, it is mandatory to check
the surroundings to ensure that there is no risk of igni on. If the refrigera on system is being repaired, the
following precau ons should be taken before star ng work.
All service technicians and other persons working in the vicinity must be instructed on the nature of the
work to be performed. Avoid working in confined spaces. The area around the workspace should be
divided into parts. Ensure that the repair area is adequately maintained by inspec ng combus ble
materials.
