Lubrication

4. Remove the old filter and wipe off the filter
mounting surface.
5. Install the new filter. Lubricate the filter gasket
with a drop of fresh oil. Turn the filter clock-
wise until the rubber gasket contacts the seal-
ing surface, then turn an additional
3/4 turn.
Do not over-tighten.
NOTE:
Use
ONLY
a Walker filter (P/N 5024-
13).
6. Reconnect the lines between the oil pump and
the transmissions at the elbow connectors.
Use a 12mm and a 17mm wrench to prevent
the hose from rotating while tightening the
connection.
7. Apply a thread sealer to the reservoir drain
plug, then reinstall.
8. Thoroughly clean the area around each fill
plug on the top of each transmission. Remove
the fill plugs, and use a small funnel to fill to
the bottom of the threads—approximately 16
oz. Reinstall the fill plugs. See
Fill Transmis-
sion Oil
illustration for location of fill plugs.
NOTE:
Use
ONLY
Mobil SHC
TM
630 oil (P/N
6450-20).
9. Thoroughly clean around the reservoir fill cap,
and remove the cap. Fill the reservoir to the
bottom of the threads.
10. Keep the cap off, start the engine, and let the
engine run for a few minutes while watching
the oil through the fill opening for the air (foam)
to dissipate. Add additional oil to reach the
cold fill line (about half-way up the sight gauge
window) if necessary.

11. Reinstall the reservoir fill cap. Drive the trac-
tor for 5 minutes. Let the engine cool and
check the cold fill level again. Add additional
oil to reach the cold fill line (about half-way up
the sight gauge window) if necessary.
12. Check all connections for leaks and tighten if
necessary.
Grease Fitting and Oil Point Lubrication
Lubricate the grease fittings and oil points
after
every 25 hours
of operation. Lubricate
more
often when operating in dusty or dirty condi-
tions.
Use SAE general purpose lithium or molyb-
denum base grease for grease fittings and light
machine oil (SAE 10) to lubricate oil points. Lubri-
cate the locations shown in the
Chassis and Deck
Lubrication Points
illustration on page 67.
NOTE:
PTO universal joints (on the deck and
trac tor) require routine lubrication
after every 25
hours
of running time. Remove tractor PTO quick
disconnect tube assembly for easy access to
grease fittings.
NOTE:
The best way to lubricate the PTO tube
half of the universal joint assembly is to remove it
from the tractor. See instructions for removing and
install ing PTO quick coupler, refer to
Mower Deck
Installation on Tractor on page 22.
