Using the compact charger

– Connect the red terminal of the compact charger to the positive termi-
nal of the battery.
– Connect the black terminal of the compact charger to the chassis, e.g.
the engine block.

If the
positive terminal is connected to the chassis
, connect the termi-
nals as follows:
– Connect the black terminal of the compact charger to the negative ter-
minal of the battery.
– Connect the red terminal of the compact charger to the chassis, e.g.
the engine block.

Connect the cable to the terminals (fig.

5, page 3) using the adapter
plug (fig.
1
3, page 3) of the compact charger.

Charge the battery as described in the "Charging a battery" chapter on
page 28.
Connecting batteries that are not installed in vehicles
➤
Connect the red terminal (fig.

3, page 3) of the compact charger to the
positive terminal of the battery (fig.
2
4, page 3).
The positive terminal can usually be distinguished from the negative ter-
minal by the larger diameter of its connection. In addition, red cables are
used for the connection to positive terminals in most vehicles.

Connect the black terminal (fig.

2, page 3) of the compact charger to
the negative terminal of the battery (fig.
2
4, page 3).
Note
If the red “Reverse Connection” LED (fig.
1
7, page 3) glows you
have reversed the polarity.
Disconnect the battery from the compact charger immediately and
connect the cables with the correct polarity.
