Voltmaster Engine-Driven Generators
Operation: General maintenance
3.3
General maintenance
The generator should be run at least once a month for a few
minutes to keep all components in proper operating condition.
For engine maintenance requirements, see the engine manual.
For troubleshooting, see the Voltmaster troubleshooting manual,
available at www.voltmaster.com.
3.3.1
Gasoline-fueled generators
Model XCR, XSD, and XTP gasoline-fueled generators are EPA
certified and require the following maintenance.
■
The fuel cap includes a rubber gasket that can become worn over
time. The gasket is important for keeping the fuel system sealed,
and must be replaced if damaged. Check the gasket once a year.
Use only a gasket that provides a vapor-proof seal. Use only
manufacturer-approved replacement parts.
■
The EPA-approved fuel lines are made from rubber that can degrade
over time. The fuel lines are vital for proper operation, and must be
replaced if damaged. Check the fuel lines once a year. Use only EPA-
approved fuel lines.
3.3.2
Model XAF alternative-fuel generators
When servicing an XAF generator, shut off all fuel lines and
eliminate all possible outside sources of ignition.
Only qualified personnel should service liquid propane and natural
gas generators.
3.3.3
Changing the oil
Change the engine oil as specified in the engine manual. Oil should
be drained while the engine is slightly warm.
