Charging

• Insert the power plug (12) of the charger into a wall socket.

• The charger is initialised and checks every single charging function. The indicators briefly light

up one after another. At the end of the test, all the indicators light up simultaneously for approx.
2 seconds, and then are extinguished, except for the operation indicator “STANDBY”.

• Connect the appropriate adapter cable (10 or 11) with the charging cable of the charger. The

plugs only fit together with the right polarisation. Check the cables’ firm connection. 

• Connect the battery with the right polarity. The red clamp is the plus pole, the black clamp is

the minus pole. When the battery is installed, connect the plus pole first. Then connect the
black pole clamp to a ground potential (chassis), a small distance away from the battery and
the gas line. Re-check the secure contact of the clamps.

If possible, disconnect the lead battery from the onboard electronics. Please note
however, that this may cause system memory to be lost. If dismounting the battery
is not possible, it may be charged in place.

When the "test mode" (6) indication flashes after the battery is connected, the rechargeable
battery cannot be charged. Have the lead accumulator checked by a specialist workshop.

When the "alarm" (0) indicator flashes after the battery is connected, check the rechargeable
battery connection for correct polarity, short circuits or bad contacts.

If the charger was properly connected, the "STANDBY" indicator will flash for approx. 2 minutes.
Within this time, the desired charging programme can be selected.

Select the desired charging mode with the MODE button (1) at the charger. Every time you press
it, the next charging mode is selected. If no selection is made within 2 minutes, the last selected
charging mode is selected automatically.

You can select the following charging modes:

Charging mode Function

Car mode (4)

For battery capacities of 15 - 100 Ah
Voltage at end of charging is 14.4 V
Charging current is 5 A max.

Cold charging mode for temperatures <10°C (5)

For battery capacities of 15 - 100 Ah
Voltage at end of charging is 14.7 V
Charging current is 5 A max.

• Shortly, the charging cycle starts automatically. The “MODE” key is blocked during the charging

cycle, to impede a switch over.

Interrupting the charging cycle is only possible by disconnecting the charging clamps.

• The charger indicates the current charging state and the charging mode as follows:

Meaning

Testing mode (6)

The charger checks the battery’s condition in order to start the appropriate
charging (reactivation/normal charging). In case of normal lead batteries,
this indication is extinguished after approx. 10 sec. If it remains on any
longer, this indicates that the re-activation mode is active. Where reactiva-
tion was successful, the charger automatically switches back to normal
charging mode after a while. The display will go out.

Pulse trickle charging mode (8)

The lead battery is charged. The charger is in buffer mode, in order to keep
the battery approx. 95 - 100% charged. This mode can be used to let the
battery “hibernate”.

Alarm indication (9)

The blinking alarm indication indicates a charging error.
Check the charging contacts for short circuit or incorrect polarisation. Solve
the problem. 

• The end of the charging cycle is indicated by the luminous indicator “Trickle charging” (8).

First, pull the power plug (4) from the wall socket, and then remove first the
black and then the red clamp from the battery. 

Interrupting the charging process 

If the power is interrupted, the last charging programme selected will be continued
automatically after the power returns.

The charger automatically completes the charging process when the charging end voltage is
reached and switches to pulse trickle charge mode by itself. 

While charging it is perfectly normal for the battery (batteries) to become
slightly warm.

Never cover the charger to avoid possible damage (caused by heat accumu-
lation).

In case of overheating, the charger automatically reduces the charging cur-
rent to avoid further rising of the temperature. If it becomes overheated, the
charger shuts down automatically for safety reasons. All indicators are extin-
guished. Disconnect the charger from the wall socket and leave it to cool
down for 1 to 2 h. After cooling down, the charger is ready for use again.

Charging time

The charging time it takes to reach the charging end voltage depends on several parameters,
such as e.g.
• the capacity (Ah, the greater, the longer the charging time)
• the type of battery
• the charging state of the battery (full, half-full or empty),
• the ambient temperature (this should preferably be 20 - 25°C) and
• the general condition (age) of the battery.

The charging time focusses on the abovementioned parameters and can be roughly calculated
by means of the following formula (for a rough time estimation):

Disposal

Electronic products are raw materials and do not belong in the household waste.
When the device has reached the end of its service life, please dispose of it,
according to the current statutory requirements, at your local collecting site.
Disposal in the domestic waste is not permitted.

Disposal of used batteries/rechargeable batteries

As a consumer you are required (Battery Ordinance)to responsibly dispose of all used batter-
ies and rechargeable batteries;it is forbidden to throw them away with the normal house-
hold waste!

Batteries/rechargeable batteries containing harmful substances are marked with
the opposite symbols, to indicate that disposal in the domestic waste is forbidden.
The designations for the relevant heavy metals are: Cd = cadmium, Hg = mercury,
Pb = lead. You can return used batteries / storage batteries free of charge to the
collection points in your community, our branches or anywhere else where batteries
or storage batteries are sold.
You thus fulfil the legal requirements and make your contribution to the protection
of the environment!
