User’s Manual
Appendix 2
Server Modes of ESERV-10
The terminal server operation of ESERV-10 can be selected from following list:
•
Monitor TCP connection only (Password protected server)
•
Raw TCP or UDP socket server (Autosocket server)
•
Raw TCP or UDP socket client (Autosocket client)
•
Raw TCP or UDP socket client and server (Autosocket client-server)
•
Raw TCP or UDP socket client with e-mail autoread
•
Raw TCP or UDP socket server with e-mail autoread
•
Raw TCP or UDP socket client and server with e-mail autoread
•
Raw TCP or UDP socket server with e-mail autosend
•
E-mail autoread and autosend
•
AT – command set controlled operation.
The main operation of each feature is described briefly below:
Monitor TCP Connection
Monitor TCP connection is a password-protected, always available kind of “administrator” console
access for the communication with the serial device connected to the ESERV-10. When monitor
connection is active all serial traffic coming from the device is routed to the monitor socket and
other communication is denied.
Autosocket Server
In the autosocket server mode ESERV-10 allows incoming UDP or TCP connection to the
terminal/console communication port (user defined), However, ESERV-10 is not capable of setting
up the connection by itself. (Compare: If ESERV-10 were a telephone the incoming calls would be
allowed on server mode but outgoing calls not.)
Autosocket Client
In the autosocket client mode ESERV-10 can set up the connection to the predefined IP address
and communication port (UDP or TCP) when necessary (data on serial buffer), but does not allow
connection to be initiated from outside. (If ESERV-10 were a telephone only outgoing calls would
be possible.)
Autosocket Client-Server
In the autosocket client-server mode ESERV-10 allows both incoming and outgoing connections. If
there is data available on the serial buffer and the connection is open the data is directed to that
socket. Otherwise ESERV-10 initiates a connection to the predefined IP address and port in order
to transfer data.
E-mail Autoread
The e-mail autoread feature allows ESERV-10 to check arrived e-mails from remote mail server
and transfer the received messages to the serial port. This feature can be used independently or
with autosocket features.
E-mail Autosend
The E-mail autosend feature allows ESERV-10 to send data from serial port by e-mail to the
predefined recipient.
AT Command Controlled Operation
In the AT command mode the communication of ESERV-10 is controlled by AT commands. The
commands can be used to initiate UDP or TCP connection, accepting or denying incoming
connections or sending and receiving e-mail.
