GAS CYLINDER SAFE HANDLING
Gas cylinders are under very high pressure, follow these safety
instructions.
•
Gas
cylinder
contents
are
under
high
pressure.
•
Ensure
contents
of
cylinders
are
properly
identified.
•
Don't
destroy
or
remove
identification
tags
or
labels.
•
Check
to
see
cylinder
valves
are
protected
with
protective
caps.
•
Leave
caps
on
until
the
gas
is
about
to
be
used.
•
Do
not
roll
or
drop
cylinders,
or
let
them
bump
violently
against
each
other.
•
Secure
large
cylinders
(125
cuft)
with
a
chain
or
strap
positioned
around
the
upper
third
of
the
cylinder.
•
Small
cylinders
(22
cuft)
may
be
put
on
their
side
and
blocked
to
prevent
from
rolling.
•
Clear
cylinder
valve
of
any
dust
or
dirt
before
attaching
the
regulator.
•
Some
regulators
are
only
for
specific
gases
and
regulators
should
not
be
interchanged.
CGA580
valve
connection
must
be
used
for
argon
and
nitrogen
cylinders.
•
Stand
to
the
side
of
the
regulator
when
opening
the
cylinder
valve.
•
Open
cylinder
valve
slowly.
•
Store
cylinders
in
a
well
‐
ventilated
area
away
from
all
sources
of
heat
or
flames.
•
Before
returning
cylinder,
close
the
valve
and
replace
the
protective
cap.
•
Mark
empty
cylinders
"EMPTY".
