PRESSER FOOT LIFTER
The presser foot is lowered or raised with the presser foot lifter. If you are sewing on heavy
fabric or several layers of fabric, the presser foot can be raised higher to make it easier to
place the fabric underneath the presser foot.
THREAD TENSION
To understand the correct thread tension,
sew a few sample straight stitches at different
settings.
1. Begin with a tension that is too loose,
i.e. set at the lowest number. The bobbin
thread will lie straight and the top thread
will be drawn to the underside of the
fabric.
2. If you set the tension at the highest
number, the top thread might break and
the seam may pucker.
3. The correct thread tension is set when the
threads interlock in the middle of both
fabric layers or, in the case of decorative
stitches, on the underside.
Make a few tests on a scrap piece of the fabric
you are going to sew and check the tension.
