Rear Suspension
Adjust Rear Shock Absorber
5. Load the motorcycle with all the things you intend to carry (cargo and accessories). With the motorcycle in an
upright position, sit on the operator’s seat with your riding gear on, and if you plan on carrying a passenger,
have that person sit on the passenger seat with riding gear on.
6. Have your assistant bounce the rear suspension a few times by pushing down on the rear fender slowly and
releasing. Make sure the suspension moves freely without binding.
7. Without moving the motorcycle, have your assistant measure the distance from the center of the rear axle to the
bottom of the rear fender directly above the axle. This measurement must be taken from the same locations
recorded in step 2.
8. Subtract the second measurement (step 7) from the first
measurement (recorded in step 2). The difference is called “sag”
and should be 1 to 1 3/8 inch (25 to 35 mm).
9. To adjust the pre-load (change sag dimension):
A. Remove the right side cover.
B. Remove the fuse box from right panel by lifting upward on
the tab at the forward end while pulling the fuse box forward.
C. Remove 3 bolts holding panel to chassis.
D. Press on plastic dart that holds the electrical harness to
separate the harness from the panel.
E. Carefully pull back panel and electrical harness to access the
spring adjuster nut.
