Combined battery charger / battery splitter BCS1225, BCS1245, BCS2425, BCS2445
Warning!
Earthing 230 Volt electrical apparatus on board of a ship that
is not connected via a quayside connection with a quay socket
protected against earth leakage is only worthwhile, if an earth
leakage protection or chassis insulation protection is present
(floating mains).
Consult your installer for this.
Additionally the local regulations that can differ per country are
of importance and also their application can be important (often
special rules apply for professional shipping and in particular
passenger ships).
VETUS can not accept responsibility for use of the charger con-
trary to the local regulations.
5 Operation
After connecting the battery, charging starts automatically and
the ‘ON’ LED shall light up to indicate this.
The VETUS charger of the appliance has a charging type that
can be denoted as IUoU-float.
BOOST-PHASE
The battery charger begins to charge the battery with the maxi-
mum charging current.
Current limit adjust range, in case a remote control panel is
connected:
As soon as the gas pressure of the battery is reached (See
‘7 Technical details’, charge voltage, Boost), the charge volt-
age shall not further increase and the current will gradually
decrease.
FLOAT-PHASE
If the charging current has decreased to approx. 10% of the max-
imum charging current, the charging voltage will be decreased
to the Float Voltage (see ‘7 Technical details’, charging current,
Float). This reduces the water usage of the batteries.
5.1 Protection
The charger switches itself off at the following malfunctions and
switches itself on again once the malfunction is resolved:
- Mains voltage too low or too high
- Short circuiting of the output
- Battery voltage too high
- Battery charger at too high a temperature
By wrongly connecting plus and minus of the battery the charg-
ing current fuse will blow.
5.2 LED indicators
The battery charger is provided with the following LED indica-
tors:
