To use the RTC Battery with the EBX-18, move the jumper on V13 from being stored on pin
1 to connecting pin 1 and pin 2. Refer to the section titled “Battery Saver Jumper” on page
18 for more information.
2. Attach Cables and Peripherals
Plug the video adapter cable CBR-1201 into socket J6. Attach the video monitor (VGA
DB15) interface cable to the video adapter.
If you are using a PS/2 keyboard or mouse, plug the CBR-5009A cable into socket J4. If
necessary, attach the CBR-5009B paddleboard to the cable. (The cable and board are shipped
attached.) Plug the keyboard and/or mouse into connector J4 of the paddleboard.
If you are using a USB keyboard or mouse, plug them into any of the available USB ports
(J20, J21, or J22) of the EBX-18.
Plug a USB CD/DVD-ROM drive into any of the available USB ports (J20, J21, or J22) of
the EBX-18. To avoid potential device delays and excessive power consumption through the
USB ports, use an external power supply for the USB CD-ROM drive.
Plug the SATA data cable VL-CBR-0702 into the SATA connector (J16). Attach a SATA
hard drive to the other end of the cable.
Attach the SATA power adapter cable VL-CBR-0401 to the ATX power supply and SATA
drive.
3. Review Configuration
Before you power up the system, double check all the connections. Make sure all cables are
oriented correctly and that adequate power will be supplied to the EBX-18 and peripheral
devices.
4. Power On
Turn on the ATX power supply and the video monitor. If the system is correctly configured,
a video signal should soon be present.
5. Change BIOS Setup program Settings
Enter the BIOS Setup program by pressing <Delete> during the early boot cycle.
Verify that the desired primary boot device is listed as such. Refer to Table 14 on page 28
for more information.
Before saving the BIOS Setup program settings, insert the Windows (or other OS)
installation disk in the CD/DVD-ROM drive so it will be accessed when the system reboots.
Press <F10> and write the new parameters to CMOS RAM. The system will reboot.
6. Install an Operating System
Install the operating system according to the instructions provided by the operating system
manufacturer. (See Operating System Installation.)
Note:
If you intend to operate the EBX-18 under Windows XP or Windows XP Embedded, be sure to
use Service Pack 3 (SP3).
