INSTRUCTIONS FOR UV-C FILTER 5, 7, 9, 11, 18, 36 AND 55 WATT
We recommend you to read these instructions very carefully before installing the UV-C apparatus.
GENERAL
This apparatus uses UV-C radiation to filter pond and aquarium water. It is composed of the
following parts:
1. Quartz glass
2. Watertight sealing ring
3. PL UV-C lamp (with spacer)
4/5. Screw cap with cord, plug and transformer
6. Synthetic housing
7. 2 mounting brackets
8. Hose connectors for feed and discharge
SPECIAL FEATURES
This fitting has been equipped with a useful additional accessory: for safety's sake a circuit braking
device has been mounted in the screw cap. As soon as this screw cap is unscrewed, for example
to clean the quartz tube, the power supply to the PL UV-C lamp will be interrupted automatically.
This is meant to prevent unforeseen contact with UV-C radiation, which is harmful to your eyes.
APPLICATIONS
The 5 Watt filter is suitable to treat ponds up to 2500 litres, optimum pump capacity 2000 l/h.
The 7 Watt filter is suitable to treat ponds up to 3500 litres, optimum pump capacity 4000 l/h.
The 9 Watt filter is suitable to treat ponds up to 4500 litres, optimum pump capacity 5000 l/h.
The 11 Watt filter is suitable to treat ponds up to 5500 litres, optimum pump capacity 6000 l/h.
The 18 Watt filter is suitable to treat ponds up to 9000 litres, optimum pump capacity 6000 l/h.
The 36 Watt filter is suitable to treat ponds up to 18,000 litres, optimum pump capacity > 6000 l/h.
The 55 Watt filter is suitable to treat ponds up to 27,500 litres, optimum pump capacity > 6000 l/h.
The 18, 36 and 55 Watt fitting is equipped with an electronic transformer. This type of transformer
generates less heat, consumes less energy and has a longer life. For your safety this ballast has
been equipped with a special power off function. When you replace the UV-C lamp, the ballast will
switch off automatically when removing the lamp. After you will have inserted a new lamp, you
should unplug and subsequently plug the power plug. The apparatus will switch on again.
USE
UV-C equipment has already been used for some considerable time to keep aquarium and pond
water free of floating algae and to reduce water-borne pathogens. UV-C filtration can also ensure
crystal-clear water and a healthy aquatic environment for both fish and aquatic plants. The effect is
based on the use of ultraviolet radiation, which affects the cells of both plants and animals. As the
water to be filtered is passed along the quartz glass in a thin layer, the action of the UV-C filter pro-
ceeds in an optimum way. We would advise you to let the UV-C filter work continuously during the
pond season. During the winter season (December to mid-March) you should remove the appara-
tus to prevent it from freezing.
