3.2 Principle of operation
The VEGAPULS C 21 SDI-12 can be operated on any data logger
with SDI-12 interface. The sensors are powered via the +12 V cable
of the three-wire connection cable. The device is therefore particu-
larly suitable for battery-supported applications requiring low power
consumption as well as applications with a signal and supply cable
for several sensors.

The instrument emits a continuous, frequency-modulated radar signal
through its antenna. The emitted signal is reflected by the medium
and received by the antenna as an echo with modified frequency. The
frequency change is proportional to the distance and is converted into
the filling height.
