2 Scope

2.1  Instrument version

This safety manual applies to TDR sensors

VEGAFLEX 81, 82, 83, 86

Electronics types:

4 … 20 mA/HART - two-wire with SIL qualification

• 

4 … 20 mA/HART - two-wire with SIL qualification and supplemen-

tary electronics "Additional current output 4 … 20 mA"

Valid versions:

Probe types:

• 

Only original probes of VEGA Grieshaber KG must be used

2.2  Area of application

The instrument can be used for point level detection or level measure-

ment in liquids and bulk solids as well as for interface measurement in 

liquids in a safety-instrumented system according to IEC 61508 in the 

modes 

low demand mode

 and 

high demand mode

:

• 

Up to SIL2 in a single-channel architecture

• 

Up to SIL3 in a multiple-channel architecture

The following interface should be used to output the measured value:

• 

Current output: 4 … 20 mA

The following interfaces are only permitted for parameter adjustment 

and for informative use:

2.3  SIL conformity

The SIL conformity was independently judged and certified by the 

TÜV Rheinland 

 according to IEC 61508:2010 (Ed.2).

The certificate is valid for the entire service life of all instruments that 

were sold before the certificate expired!
